In order to retrieve allegedly stolen government property from individuals who worked in the previous administration, Abia State Governor Alex Otti established a judicial panel of investigation. Otti provided justifications for his decision.
Otti recently established a body with the responsibility of reclaiming the property in the state.
The State High Court in Umuahia’s Justice Florence Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe was chosen to lead the panel.
Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, Mazi Ugochukwu Okoroafor, Rev. Fr. Alex Okonkwo, and Prof. Ogwo Ekeoma Ogwo are other panelists.
However, Otti said in a post sent out via his Twitter account on Wednesday morning that he had made the decision to organize a commission to reclaim the state’s assets due to widespread claims of the embezzlement and misuse of public resources by past authorities.
“Honored to launch the Judicial Panel dedicated to the recovery of Abia State’s assets,” Otti tweeted.
“Normally, this administration would have preferred to avoid engaging in any type of investigation into past actions and instead concentrate on the tasks of governance and the distribution of the democratic dividend.
“However, in reaction to widespread claims that past officials misused and misappropriated public resources. a particularly hostile handover in which many resources were inaccessible and activities had to be restarted from scratch. emphasizes the need of investigation and responsibility, as demanded by our citizens.
