Tunde Onakoya has become the latest recipient of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s congratulations for breaking the world chess record and bringing Nigerian brilliance to the forefront of international attention.

On Saturday, after playing chess for more than 58 hours and winning every match in a row, Onakoya broke the Guinness World Record, as reported by the DAILY POST.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu paid tribute to the Nigerian chess champion and founder of Chess in Slums Africa for his remarkable feat, which brought the country’s strength and determination to a worldwide audience.

He spoke highly of Onakoya’s altruistic motivations, praising his drive to gather money so that chess can be a tool for the empowerment of children in Africa.

The president praised Onakoya for displaying a trait shared by young Nigerians: the courage to make a difference, to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and to lead the country in finding innovative solutions to its problems, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

Afrobeats, Nollywood, the throbbing skit-making sector, education, science, and technology are just a few areas where he said Nigerian youngsters have shown themselves.

The president reassured the public that his administration will continue to work tirelessly to provide more possibilities for young people to develop their skills.
