Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has said that his supporters will not give up on their demand that Iyorchia Ayu, the head of the Peoples Democratic Party, step down.
The Governor made the promise during a meeting with the media on Friday in Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike said that his request is in the “interest” of the people of his country.
He said again that the South should be able to choose the National Chairman, since the North is where the party’s presidential candidate is from.
The Governor said that people from the South who back Ayu’s role as chairman are lying.
“All you need to know is that we will not give up. When I ask them a question and they say, “Go talk to Wike,” they run away. Some of them just don’t mean what they say.
“I’ll look them in the eyes and ask, “Where are you from? What will you tell your children?” You can’t tell them you have strong morals, can you?
“The problem with this country is that we always make room for bad things, and then you tell me it’s for the good of the party.”
The governor insisted that Ayu keep his promise to quit when the party’s presidential candidate comes from the North.
