Thomas Muller, a forward for Germany, has made references to retiring from international competition after his team was eliminated from Euro 2024.
Friday in Stuttgart saw Germany lose 2-1 to Spain in the quarterfinals.
Dani Olmo of Spain broke the tie in the 51st minute, but Florian Wirtz of the home team tied the score in the 89th.
But in the 119th minute, Mikel Merino scored the game-winning goal to guarantee Spain’s passage to the round of four.
Muller made a significant retirement announcement following the match, saying Sky Sport (via Fabrizio Romano):
“Yes, this was probably my final game with Germany.”
In 2010, Muller earned his senior Germany debut.
