Jorge Mas, a co-owner of Inter Miami, has stated that Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona in order to receive a fitting farewell there.
After leaving Barcelona in 2021, Messi has not yet been given the opportunity to bid farewell to the club’s supporters.
After his contract with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end this summer, the seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or decided against renewing his membership at Camp Nou.
Instead, at the age of 36, the player decided to continue his career in Major League Soccer (MLS) with Inter Miami.
Jorge Mas has revealed that Lionel Messi will be returning to Camp Nou. He made the announcement while appearing on the Offside with Taylor Twellman podcast.
He was quoted as saying, “I don’t know if it’s some kind of friendly or goodbye game. They compete over the summer months for something called the Gamper Trophy.
“But there will be something where, hopefully when the new Camp Nou is open — because their stadium there is undergoing construction and won’t be ready for another year and a half — Lionel Messi will be able to say his proper goodbye.”
