Jamie Carragher, a veteran of Liverpool, has encouraged England manager Gareth Southgate to “sacrifice” Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden for the Three Lions’ last Euro 2024 group match against Slovenia.
This comes after England had a difficult time playing on Thursday, drawing 1-1 with Denmark.
The final Group C game for England will now take place on Tuesday against Slovenia.
With four points as of right now, they lead the Group. They must defeat Slovenia or draw to advance to the Round of 16.
“Unfortunately, two of the best Premier League footballers – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden – will have to be sacrificed now,” Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
The group configuration is not obtaining the greatest performance out of them or their teammates. There was always a danger when starting Alexander-Arnold in midfield during a major tournament. That hasn’t succeeded.
“I would like to see a 4-3-3 with Saka and Anthony Gordon either side of Kane,” Carragher said, discussing the wingers that should partner with Harry Kane up front.
