The best thing that has occurred in former Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria’s illustrious career thus far has been playing with fellow countryman Lionel Messi at the Argentina national team and Paris Saint-Germain.
During their time at PSG, Messi and Di Maria, both 35, played together for just one season.
But in the 2021–2022 season, the former Juventus and Manchester United star struggled to get consistent playing time.
Di Maria started 22 of the French Ligue 1 champions’ 31 games across all competitions.
According to Di Maria (via Albiceleste Talk), “playing with Leo Messi [Lionel Messi] in the national team and club was the best thing that happened in my career.”
He continued, “I participated in the club with him [Messi] for a year, but I did not play. I was aware that I wouldn’t play much if he arrived.
While Messi will join MLS team Inter Miami when his contract with PSG expires at the end of this month, Di Maria is close to joining Benfica after leaving Juventus as a free agent this summer.
