As Israel cuts off Al Jazeera, the United Nations insists on press freedom

In the wake of Israel’s decision to shut down Al Jazeera’s activities in the nation, the UN has emphasized the significance of press freedom.

In New York, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the organization will strongly oppose any move to limit journalistic freedom.

He argued that the public’s knowledge and participation are greatly enhanced by a free press.

LEAKNEWS previously reported that Benjamin Netanyahu, prime minister of Israel, announced that the decision to shut down Al Jazeera’s activities in Israel had been unanimously made by his cabinet.

Israeli parliament passed a new media bill, often known as the “Al Jazeera law,” which grants the government the authority to exclude foreign broadcasters who pose a threat to national security. This led to the immediate action.

The Israeli decision has been condemned by Al Jazeera, which has pledged to use “all avenues” necessary to defend its rights and the rights of its staff.
