To modernize Cross River – Obono-Obla, we must make more daring choices

Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla, a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged Governor Bassey Otu to take more difficult and audacious decisions that will transform Cross River State.

In a statement released on Sunday, Obono-Obla praised the governor for rescinding the allegedly contentious Cally Air contract that former governor Ben Ayade had signed with Aero Contractors.

The people want more decisions, he claimed, even though he has made what appear to be the appropriate ones in his first month in office as governor, creating the groundwork for him to transform the State’s administrative and political governance system as a whole.

“I admonish him to keep making strong, audacious, and courageous decisions that will deepen the transformation we all crave for the State to make in order to overhaul, revitalize, and reform the public service of the State in order to bring it back to its former glory.

He said, “I strongly commend him for the bold decision to cancel the murky Cally Air Concession agreement with Aero Contractors and for his constitution of a Committee to take inventory of concessionaire agreements entered with various concessionaires to manage industries belonging to the State government.

In order to address the alleged injustice and marginalization of specific communities, he also urged Otu to reform and reposition the ruling APC.

He said that the State party executive committee’s recent instructions asking wards to submit names of potential candidates for appointments and empowerment had been misappropriated.

He declared that “this is dangerous for the governor and the party, if he does not act immediately and decisively.”
