In order to make room for the construction of a second, 4.2 kilometre runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, the Federal Government has approved N825.819 million in compensation for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Following a negotiation meeting with the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, officials from both ministries and their agencies, as well as stakeholders from Jiwa, the impacted community, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike announced the development in Abuja on Tuesday.

Wike disclosed that the authorized amount is intended to encourage the community’s people to leave and solicit their assistance in completing the second Abuja runway project, which was originally awarded in 2022.

The minister also announced that the FCT would build a 5 kilometer bridge in Tunga Madaki, the temporary resettlement site for the indigenous people, as well as plans for a cutting-edge healthcare center for the neighborhood.

With the assurance that the approved funds would be released on Wednesday, August 30, Wike further urged the contractors to resume their work.
