Sirika and her brother face new accusations of fraud from the EFCC

Prosecutors from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have levied new allegations of fraud totaling more than N19.4 billion against Ahmad Sirika, Hadi Sirika’s brother, and his business, Enginos Nigeria Limited.

According to rumors, the former minister sent the funds to Abubakar, Sirika’s younger brother, who owns Enginos Nigeria Limited, in order to pay for several contracts with the aviation ministry.

On Tuesday, Justice Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja will arraign the Sirika brothers and Enginos Nigeria Limited.

The EFCC claimed in the new charges that Sirika, “during your tenure as Minister of Aviation, on or around August 18, 2022, in Abuja, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, did utilize your position to unfairly benefit Enginos Nigeria Limited, whose pseudonym is Ahmad Abubakar Sirika, your biological brother.

You did this by influencing the awarding of the contract for the construction of a terminal building at Katsina Airport for the amount of N1,345,586,500.00…”

The anti-graft agency said that Sirika was in violation of part 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, which is a punishable part of the same law.

The EFCC further claimed that “on or about November 3, 2022, in Abuja,” Sirika “used your position to confer unfair advantage upon Enginos Nigeria Limited, whose alter ego, Ahmad Abubakar Sirika, is your biological brother.

The contract for the establishment of Fire Truck Maintenance and Refurbishment Centre at Katsina Airport for the sum of N3,811,497,685.00” was awarded to Ahmad via the use of Sirika’s position. Another accusation was that

Another accusation against him was that he had corruptly given his brother a contract to buy and install air conditioners, lifts, and generators at the Aviation House in Abuja, with a value of N615,195,275.00.

From August 2022 to May 2023 in Abuja, the EFCC claimed that Hadi Abubakar Sirika, who was the Minister of Aviation at the time, “had possession of an aggregate sum of N2,337, 840,674.16, which sum you knew indirectly represented the proceeds of criminal conducts of Hadi Abubakar Sirika.”.
