Pipleline surveillance contract: IYC advises Arewa youths to avoid the Niger Delta region

According to the Ijaws Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, it is disrespectful for young people in the north, where there is no oil, to demonstrate against a pipeline surveillance contract in the Niger Delta.

Binebai Yerin Princewill, the IYC spokesperson, cautioned the Northern Youth Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative and Arewa Youth Forum to be aware of their limitations in this nation during a news conference on Wednesday in Warri.

They should stay away from Niger Delta activities, in especially those of the Ijaw people, the IYC image creator advised. We won’t put up with this continuously. The Ijaw Youth Council has never objected to a Northerner being denied employment in his community or region. The Northern young have engaged in far too many of these stupid marches against our people. We still well remember the protests that Northern Youths staged in 2022 over the contract being denied to residents of the Niger Delta.

Any such attempt shall be fought using all available methods. It is not even something we should fight and battle for; it should be our right, and Northern youths have no right to even discuss guiding pipelines through our villages for the Federal Government of Nigeria. The fear right now is that soon we’ll be engaged in conflict about who gets to manage our lands’ resources.

The Ijaw Youth Council is well aware that gold mining has been taking place in states like Zamfara, Abuja, Bauchi, Osun, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Oyo, Kogi, and Kaduna for years, but nothing has been transferred in any way to the federation’s coffers, and no one is speaking out about it.
