On Friday, the National Intelligence Agency denied an online rumor claiming Amb. Mohammed Dauda had been appointed the agency’s new director general by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division.
In a statement given to press in Abuja, Mr. A. Wakili, the Head of the Legal Department of NIA, referred to the alleged web report as false and deceptive.
Dauda had reportedly been reinstated as the agency’s director general, according to earlier reports.
“Our attention has been drawn to false and misleading reports circulating online regarding Dauda’s reinstatement as DG of NIA by the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division,” read part of the statement.
It is crucial to make it clear that Dauda was never an actual DG of the organization.
After Ayo Oke’s tenure and Arab Yadam’s brief acting stint, he only served in that role temporarily until Ahmed Abubakar was named the substantive DG by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Wakili, the case decided by the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal concerned Dauda’s termination as Director of the NIA due to a number of violations and infractions.
