Manager told ex-Liverpool midfielder to replace Ten Hag, and the deal is done, the player said

One Manchester United player allegedly informed former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer that he expects Gareth Southgate, the current head coach of England, to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford soon.

McAteer thinks Ten Hag’s tenure at the Premier League club is coming to an end, although he refrained from naming the Manchester United player.

After Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford, it appears that Ten Hag’s future with Manchester United is anything from guaranteed.

Manchester United may not be able to participate in next season’s European football tournament.

Thomas Tuchel, Jose Mourinho, Harry Potter, Zinedine Zidane, and Gareth Southgate are among the coaches said to be interested in joining Manchester United this summer.

After England’s Euro 2024 campaign concludes, McAteer says he met with a United player last week who believes the club’s new ownership will pursue Southgate.

“I won’t name names because I don’t want to say who he is, but he plays for Man United and I had a conversation with him on Friday. I bumped into him because I live just outside the area,” McAteer admitted on beIN Sports.

I wanted to know his thoughts on the season’s finish, so I struck up a chat with the terrific lad. He gave me no indication that the manager was planning to stay.

“Actually, we discussed various names and potential candidates, and he showed no interest whatsoever.”

“Yeah, that [Gareth Southgate] was the name,” McAteer said in response to a question about the manager the Man Utd player had mentioned as the probable successor to Ten Hag.

I simply had the impression that it’s done, it’s done. Footballers have a tendency to know when the manager’s job is at stake and it travels around the camp, don’t they?
