Islamic new year 1446 AH is declared on Sunday by the sultan

Muharram, the first month of the new Islamic year 1446 after Hijrah, begins on Sunday, July 7, 2024, according to Sultan of Sokoto and President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

“The national and the various moon sighting committees across the country did not receive any report on the sighting of the new moon of Muharram on Friday, 5th July, 2024, which is the 29th of Dhul’Hijja 1445 AH, hence Saturday, 6th of July, is the 30th of Dhul’Hijja,” according to a statement signed by Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

The Sultan wished Nigerian Muslims a happy new year and encouraged them to keep praying for the nation’s peace, advancement, and development.
