Salihu Tanko Yakasai, the PRP candidate for governor in Kano State, has said that Governor Ganduje is still his father and that he will never betray him.

Salihu Tanko Yakasai worked as an aide to the governor for six years before he was fired for criticizing the government of President Muhammadu Buhari. On Wednesday, he told reporters in Kano that he will never betray Ganduje, even though a lot of people find comfort in doing so.

He said, “Just because I’m running for governor of Kano on the PRP ticket doesn’t mean I’ll go out of my way to end my close friendship with Ganduje, whom I see as my father and who treats me as such.”

Salihu Tanko Yakasai said, “Politics does not mean being stupid, and me being the gubernatorial candidate of the PRP does not give me any unwarranted chance to backstab my Boss, whom I still respect,” he insisted.

Yakassai was fired twice from the government of Ganduje for criticizing the government of Buhari. He said that he does not regret criticizing the government of Buhari.

“But now that security is getting better, shouldn’t we praise the President? I think my position on being critical of national discourse stays the same, and I don’t regret criticizing the Buhari government when I did.”

Yakasai talked about the challenge of his party running against the two main Nigerian parties, APC and PDP, in Kano. He said that PRP has been a household name in Kano since it was founded in 1979, so he doesn’t have any worries.

Tanko Yakasai said, “Nigerians are tired of the APC and PDP, and this electoral law makes it hard for any party to rig elections, so my chances of becoming the next governor of Kano State are as bright as the sun.”
