The government of the State says that about 700,000 people have been moved out of about 300 towns and villages in five of the eight local government areas of the State.
But Buhari said that residents were to blame for the flood because they ignored early warning signs and blocked waterways.

Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, said in a statement, “Buhari blamed buildings on water channels, the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) failure to issue early warnings, and the changes in weather caused by climate change as the main causes of the floods that have hit 33 of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
He told everyone “worried” to work to get things back to normal in all the affected parts of the federation.
The president sent his condolences to the families of the people who had died and to everyone else who had been hurt by the flood.
