Guardiola on Man City star: “We didn’t care if he wanted to go to Manchester United

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has claimed that the team wouldn’t have given a damn if fullback Joao Cancelo had joined Manchester United.

Guardiola stated that as long as Cancelo departed the Etihad Stadium, the club was not worried about his future plans.

Cancelo signed a loan agreement with Bayern Munich with a purchase option of €70 million during the winter transfer window.

However, the Bundesliga winners declined the offer, forcing him to look for a new club this summer.

Guardiola stated (via Euro ES Euro) to Spanish media: “I think they have advised him extremely badly. He is not in the actual world. In actuality, we made the decision that he needed to leave.

“Even if he wanted to join our rival United, we didn’t care where he was heading. His agent is present, and the teams have consented. I won’t say they misinformed him, but I will say they misled him.

Regarding Cancelo’s future at Manchester City, Guardiola added:

“Txiki [Begiristain, Sporting Director], City, his representative, and the club that adores him are all involved in this. Why he didn’t sign with Barcelona is a mystery to me. We received no proposals.
