To stop the rising cross-border criminality, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has asked for the creation of a trans-regional security task force.
When Major General Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, paid him a courtesy call in Osogbo on Tuesday, he made the call.
According to Adeleke, the visit is highly important and presents a chance to improve the security plan for maintaining the current state of peace and stability throughout the area, not only in Osun.
“I demand the formation of a regional task force to monitor and reduce transnational crime in the southwest and other regions under his Command.
“With the state government and the military working in harmony, I can assure the military team that Osun is the home of hospitality where no one is treated unfairly on the basis of tribe, ethnicity, or religion,” he stated.
Brigadier General Sulaimon, commander of the Engineering Construction Regiment at Ede Army Barracks, received praise from the governor for his efforts in protecting the state.
According to Adeleke, knowing that there are military barracks in Ede serves as a sufficient deterrent to criminals who could be looking for a location to continue their illicit operations.
While praising the governor for providing a secure environment where people can live and conduct legitimate business, General Okoro also stated that he was in Osun as part of his efforts to become familiar with the operating procedures in the states under his Command.
He said that Osun State was fortunate to have the Engineering Construction Command in Ede, which is staffed by a variety of Army engineers, experts, and combatants who support the State’s security infrastructure.
He was grateful for the peaceful and secure environment that the Osun administration and people had established.
Since the Nigerian Army is a people-centric organization, Gen. Okoro continued, “I appeal for greater cooperation between the security agencies and the people not only to secure but to sustain the stable environment but to improve on it.”
