Chukwuemeka Ezeife, the former governor of Anambra State, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to follow the decision of the Appeal Court to let Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, go free.

The elder statesman made the appeal when he went on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Monday. He also said that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had ended its eight-month strike because a court told them to, and he wondered why the federal government couldn’t even respect its own court.
Ezeife thinks that God is the only one who can get President Buhari to let the IPOB leader out of jail.

“God holds the hearts of kings in his hands. We pray that God will get Buhari to do the right thing and respect the court, which is his own court. Even though they didn’t like it, the ASUU members went back to school because the court said so,” he said.
“Let our government show the way and do what the court says. I heard that Nnamdi Kanu was freed and found not guilty. But the government can make it sound like the Court only let him go.

“But even so, if he was cleared of the terrible crimes he was accused of, that’s reason enough for the Court to set him free. When we talked to the President about letting Nnamdi Kanu go, he gave us a very good answer. I found out later that the President wants to let Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho go.
“And [later], I only heard that Igboho had his charges dropped while Nnamdi Kanu was still in jail. God help the President see how bad things are in the country and free Nnamdi Kanu. God has set things up in Nigeria so that no one can say, “This is my religion, this is my tribe, etc.”
