The Federal Government’s initial announcement that rail service between Abuja and Kaduna will resume has been delayed.

During an inspection tour to evaluate the readiness of the Abuja-Kaduna rail services before the start of operations, Mu’azu Sambo, the minister of transportation, made the revelation.

The Minister said that the return of the rail service would not take longer than a week, but he was unable to provide a specific date.

“The federal government has introduced a new system of purchasing tickets; it is the beginning of security checks that will enable the government to ascertain who boards the train at every point in time,” the minister said.

The Abuja-Kaduna rail service will resume operations on Monday, November 28, 2022, according to a statement made by the federal government last week.

Following the attack on the train on March 28, 2022, when terrorists planted explosives that caused the train to derail, the rail service of the Abuja-Kaduna train was suspended.

Nine passengers were killed in the incident, and 60 were kidnapped; however, all have been freed.
