The Football Association has charged Virgil van Dijk for acting in a “improper manner” after receiving a red card during Liverpool’s victory over Newcastle.
At St James’ Park on Sunday, the Liverpool captain was given a straight red card in the 29th minute for fouling Newcastle attacker Alexander Isak.

While the incident was being examined by VAR, the defender looked to quarrel with the referee, John Brooks.

According to the FA, Van Dijk is accused of using “abusive and/or insulting words”.

“Virgil van Dijk has been charged with a breach of FA rule E3.1 following Liverpool’s Premier League game against Newcastle United on Sunday, 27 August,” stated the FA in a statement.

The defender is claimed to have behaved improperly and/or spoken abusively and/or insultingly to a match referee after getting dismissed in the 29th minute.
