The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) immediately previous Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail on Tuesday by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
Emefiele was given bail in the amount of N20 million, with a guarantee in the same amount.
This came when the Department of State Service, or DSS, filed a two-count complaint against him for illegally possessing a handgun.
After Emefiele entered a not guilty plea to the two counts against him, his attorney Joseph Daudu filed a request for bail on his behalf, arguing that the crime for which he was accused is one for which bail is allowable.
Emefiele was taken into custody by the DSS about a month ago following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
Around 9:23 a.m., he was driven to court in a white Toyota Hilux pickup van with the license plate number concealed.
Emefiele was aided by a woman when she exited the van at the courthouse and walked out in front of Justice Nicolas Oweibo.
