Peaceful local government elections are now taking place in Oyo State, according to Governor Seyi Makinde.
When he spoke to reporters on Saturday, just after casting his ballot at Polling Unit 1, Ward 11 in Ibadan North East Local Government Area, Makinde made this affirmation.
The local government election is being conducted today by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), according to 460PLAY.
Makinde praised the state’s electorate for their participation in the recent election.
He remarked that the exercise had been nonviolent and that the election’s security reports had been top-notch.
In a similar spirit, Makinde emphasized the need of reporting suspicious activity to the appropriate security authorities.
The practice of grassroots democracy is practically taken for granted in Oyo State, he added. We are having the local government election for the second time, and it is practically our fifth year in power.
Prior to our arrival, the grassroots level of government had always been caretaker, meaning that the people had no vote in who should rule them.
You may also see that individuals are going about their day, exercising in a calm manner, and following the traffic restrictions.
So, I will applaud our people for publicly demonstrating how seriously they take democracy at that level.
