Txiki Begiristain, the director of football at Manchester City, has explained why the club chose to acquire Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea this summer.
On Tuesday, the Premier League champions officially announced Kovacic’s transfer.
Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, has been looking to add to their midfield after they were unable to get Jude Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid last month.
On Monday, captain Ilkay Gundogan finished a free transfer to Barcelona.
At Kovacic’s introduction, Begiristain said: “He can play as a 6 or an 8 and has lots of experience at top-tier clubs. He also understands the Premier League.
“Bringing him to City was a pretty easy option since he possesses the tactical and technical attributes we are seeking for in a midfielder.
He is a person we had closely studied for a very long time, and each time we did, we were impressed.
