Co-hosts Australia will play Nigeria in Group B of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup without their star leader, Sam Kerr.

The Chelsea forward hurt her leg in training and couldn’t play in the Matildas’ first game against the Republic of Ireland because of it.
Kerr will also miss the Asians’ second group game, which is next Thursday at the Brisbane Stadium and is against the Super Falcons.

The 29-year-old could play against Canada, the Olympic winners, in the team’s last group game.
Kerr has played 120 times for Australia and scored 63 goals.
