Rohr, who turned 70 on Thursday, oversaw the Super Eagles for a period of five years.
On December 12, 2021, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fired him.

The 70-year-old, however, asserted that a mishap that occurred during team practice in Benin City may have led to his dismissal earlier than that.
Former sports minister Sunday Dare offered to join the Super Eagles’ training session as they prepared to play the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.

Rohr recalled in an interview with FC Bayern that “two years ago in Nigeria: unexpectedly, the Minister of Sports showed up at the training with 40 or 50 media and wanted to join.
“I was baffled. My assistant warned me that if we didn’t allow him to participate, we would all be fired the following day. We quickly set up a rondo for him, and everything went smoothly.
The national team of the Benin Republic is presently coached by Rohr.
