A socio-cultural organization called the Fulbe United for Peace (FUP), which is troubled by the frequent mention of Fulani herders in massacres around the nation, has vowed to use conventional methods to combat criminals who pose as Fulani.

Leaders of the group from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stated in a communiqué released after a national leadership consultative meeting organized by FUP with the assistance of Arewa New Agenda (ANA) on Sunday in Abuja that this was part of their determination to significantly contribute to national development.

According to a statement released by the group and signed by Ardo Aliyu Liman Bobboi, its national president, the group “agreed to develop strategies to bring all Fulbe together by using a traditional approach that is deeply rooted in the Fulbe tradition and culture—Hombudu—to bring an end to any form of criminality in the name of Fulbe.”

Other agreements in the communiqué include “developing a strategic network with relevant authorities for Fulbe youth nationwide; seeking a local workable solution from within; and reaching out to other interest groups to promote national forgiveness, reconciliation, and healing of the wounds that have been inflicted on our great country, Nigeria.”

The communiqué emphasized that Fulbe is in a position to contribute to national development most effectively as an ethnic and sociocultural organization, but it also requested that the government consult with Ardo’s leadership on any policy matters that the group finds important.

It also made note of the Fulbe’s deliberate and strategic mobilization of the nation to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

To this aim, it reaffirmed its support for all coordinated efforts being made by the current administration, headed by President Tnubu, and other national stakeholders to bring peace and security to the nation.
