Henri Konan Bedie, a former Ivory Coast president, has passed away.
According to a close cousin, Badie, who ruled politics in the country of West Africa for a generation, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 89.
From 1993 until his resignation in 1999, Bedie presided over the country.
In 2020, at the age of 86, he waged a losing campaign against President Alassane Ouattara, his longtime political nemesis.
According to NAN, it is unclear how Bedie passed away.
His spokesperson was unable for comment as of the time this news was filed.
He was long known for his role in advancing the “ivoirite” or Ivorian identity issue, and in some ways he was despised for it.
