The Canadian Senate recently had a discussion about Nollywood and the Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy.

The Senate of the North American nation evaluated the development and internationalization of the Nigerian film and music industries.

Global Affairs Canada’s Director General for the West and Central African Bureau, Marcel Lebleu, singled out Burna Boy for special praise for his touring success.

He spoke highly of the Grammy winner for making history as the first African performer to sell out consecutive shows at Montreal’s legendary Bell Centre.

“Do you know Burna Boy?” Lebleu asked. He performs Afrobeats music. Just three weeks ago, he played two sold-out shows at Montreal’s The Bell Centre. It’s close to 35,000 individuals.

He was in Toronto as well. Although it’s vital, we don’t give much thought to the culture industry. Take Nollywood as an example.

In addition, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Peter Boehm stated, “I was listening to Burna Boy the other night.”

After the video went viral, Boehm also revealed on his verified X Twitter that he is a major admirer of Burna Boy.

“Considering my height, I still find great pleasure in adding @burnaboy ‘Twice as Tall’ (2020) to my playlist,” he commented.
