In the lead-up to this year’s Ramadan fasting, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged Muslims in the country to keep an eye out for the crescent of Sha’aban 1445AH after sunset on Saturday, 29th Rajab, 1445AH (February 10, 2024).

In a statement, Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA, informed the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, that the scientific community predicts that the moon will converge on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:59 pm.

According to him, it’s worth noting that the moon typically appears and may be seen for quite some time after the conjunction has occurred, even after other environmental conditions have been taken into account.

Sha’aban, the eighth month of the lunar calendar, signifies that Ramadan, the ninth month of the calendar, is approximately one month away, as reported by 460PLAY
