Alia: Bendel State Government Dispels Claims of N20B Fraud

The state government of Benue has denied rumors that local governments in the state stole about N20 billion from the federal government.

According to the 460PLAY, the Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN) charged that Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of the state, ordered Hon. Dr. Denis Akura, his Special Adviser on Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, to steal the large quantity of money.

The state government responded on Wednesday with a statement from Akura that refuted the claim, calling it a malicious accusation.

He asserts that “the unsuspecting members of the public with bogus fallacious claims designed to discredit and distract the Alia administration” were the intended targets of the GICN report.

Moreover, Akura insisted that any mention of him between June and October 2, 2023, just “exposes the mischievous intent behind GICN’s false allegations,” and that he was not in charge of the bureau during that time.

According to the statement, the bureau’s management is not authorized to distribute palliatives or Christmas relief supplies, contrary to what several media outlets have reported.

In response to GICN’s claims, Akuka noted that similar revelations will likely surface in the near future, particularly given the momentum behind changes implemented by the Alia administration throughout government agencies.
