Jonny Evans’ signing by Man United: Erik ten Hag explains his reasoning

Manager Erik ten Hag of Manchester United gave a justification for the club’s decision to keep Jonny Evans.

Ten Had thinks the seasoned defender, who left relegated Leicester City, can make a significant difference in the younger Manchester United players.

At the Theatre of Dreams, a short-term contract was offered to the 35-year-old Northern Ireland defender.

For Wednesday’s exhibition match against Lyon in Edinburgh, Evans has joined the rest of the team.

If all went as planned, he would probably start off the bench before traveling to San Diego with the team for the club’s U.S. tour.

“Of course, I know [about] him for a long time, and I know his place was here, was in Manchester,” Ten Hag said to MUTV.

“We invited him to join us for training so he could improve his fitness, but I later informed him that not all the players were present because the international players were still on their leave.

We know he’s a really skilled player, but he’s also a decent man with a strong personality. I believe he also has a strong sense of authority and can assist the young players, particularly in these situations. It thereby benefits all parties.
