Two accused online scammers, known as the “Yahoo Boys,” have been detained by the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly killing Abdullahi Azeez, 40, for ritualistic reasons.

The corpse was allegedly dismembered and used for money rituals by the suspects, Friday Abinya Odeh, 21, and Poso Idowu, 20.

They were detained as a result of a report that the victim’s relatives filed at the Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters on June 9, 2022, stating that the victim had left his home in the Kobape area on June 8 and had not returned.

Following the report, Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police, instructed the anti-kidnapping division of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) to assume control of the investigation and solve the puzzle of the man’s mysterious disappearance.

In response to the CP’s order, the Taiwo Opadiran-led Superintendent of Police (SP) team started their investigation. On September 22, they arrived at Friday Abinya Odeh’s hideout and found the victim’s Airtel Sim card. His arrest sparked Poso Idowu’s capture as well.

During questioning, the suspects admitted that they had abducted the victim on June 8, 2022, at around 7:30 p.m. in the state’s Kobape area, from whence they had taken him against his will into a bush, killed him, and dismembered his body.

They also admitted that they claimed to have contacted a single herbalist on Facebook by the name of “Arab money,” who gave them the ritual’s instructions. The victim’s remains are still being searched for.

CP Lanre Bankole has meantime ordered that the suspects be brought up in court as soon as the inquiry is over.
