Alarm has been raised over purported preparations by the DSS to frame them on terrorism-related criminal charges by Abuja-based human rights attorneys who filed contempt of court charges against the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) regarding the continuation of Godwin Emefiele’s imprisonment.
In order to set the stage for fictitious allegations against them, the lawyers claimed that the DSS had previously publicly identified them as attorneys for the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), both of which are prohibited organizations.
Following a widely shared tweet by the DSS in response to the lawyers’ contempt of court filings, Abdulazeez Tijani Ahmed, the lawyers’ spokesperson, claimed that the security agency is attempting to portray the lawyers as terrorists at a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
“Charge and bail, overzealous uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer Maxwell Okpara mobilizes other like-minded lawyers against DG, SS,” the DSS was cited as saying in the tweet. Wasted Resources. Nigerians, take caution! This is done with malice. transferred violence.
“A proponent of the Biafran Republic and banned IPOB lawyer supporting the CBN governor. Is IPOB supporting a member of theirs? What a contradiction. I wonder how they are related. Please educate Maxwell adequately regarding legal matters.
The tweet, according to the attorneys, has now gone viral. They also stated that “when we met this morning at about 6 a.m., the tweet was still there on the SSS handle.”
“This happened around 17 hours after it was released and really started to go viral. Around 2 million people had viewed it at that point, and it had received more than 3600 comments, almost 5000 retweets, and more than 2500 likes.
“The security agency’s handle is still hosting the tweets that have sparked indignation and condemnation across the nation.
The lawyers, who were traumatized by the tweets, detailed a number of instances in which Yusuf Magaji Bichi, the head of the DSS, disobeyed court orders affecting Igbo people and said that Bichi must have “Igbophobia” as a result.
In a similar manner, the SSS’s tweet made it quite plain to everyone that Godwin Emefiele’s current persecution is primarily the result of racial profiling carried out under the DG SSS’s orders.
Since all Igbo are considered to be IPOB/ESN terrorists in Bichi’s eyes, the fact that Emefiele is Igbo and has earned the position of CBN Governor is an abomination, the group claimed.
Additionally, Tijani claimed that it is now obvious that Bichi has already launched war on the legal profession and the Igbo people, claiming that Emefiele’s ordeal is primarily motivated by racial and political factors.
The lawyers reiterated their demand that Bichi be removed from office for allegedly displaying open animosity toward an ethnic community.
Additionally, they said that President Bola Tinubu’s reputation will be damaged by the DG, DSS’s attitude, and they praised the people for its resounding rejection of the tweet.
The attorneys have also decided to write to Tinubu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the National Security Adviser (NSA), the governments of the United Nations, European Union, United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as to the court in order to have their rights upheld.
