Legendary Italian football player Roberto Baggio was robbed at gunpoint while watching his team face Spain in the ongoing Euro 2024 competition.
Around 10 p.m. local time on Thursday, approximately five armed thieves broke into Baggio’s home outside of Vicenza, according to the Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.
When the 57-year-old challenged the intruders, one of them struck him in the head with the butt of a revolver.
The robbers reportedly carried out the 40-minute attack by locking him and his family in a room while they made off with watches, jewelry, and cash.
Baggio and one of the intruders got into a “very brief” altercation.
The former football player was struck on and sustained a “deep wound.”
