Yobe Assembly begins Hisba bill amendment

Posted by

A bill aiming to reform the Hisbah Commission statute has been expeditedly considered by the Yobe State House of Assembly.

Members of the House deliberated extensively on Tuesday before the bill, which had been introduced by the executive branch, passed second reading on the Floor.

House Majority Leader Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, who spearheaded the bill’s discussion, stated that the governor had assented to the Hisbah law, but that it had been brought back to the House for revisions to some portions.

An amendment to the bill, the member said, will divide the duties of the executive chairman’s office from those of the state commandant of the Hisbah Commission.

In a rallying cry, the Majority Leader urged his colleagues to back the measure.

The measure was sent to the House standing committee on Justice and Religious Affairs for future legislative action by Rt Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, the speaker of the house, who presided over the session.
