The Federal High Court in Abuja rejected Prof. Dibu Ojerinde’s civil rights suit, which was brought by the former registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The court punished the Commission N1 million in damages and N200,000 in costs, respectively, for the arrest and detention of Ojerinde for alleged corrupt activities, according to a statement released by the Commission’s spokeswoman Azuka Ogugua on Wednesday.

The Commission emphasized that it would challenge the court’s decision.

The Federal High Court Chief Judge had granted a legitimate warrant to the anti-corruption agency on December 6, 2022.

Recall that Ojerinde is accused of using a number of fictitious names, aliases, and fake forms of identification, including Akanbi Lamidi, Adeniyi Banji, Habibulahi Lamidi, Joshua Olaniran Olakuleyin, etc., to carry out his corrupt activities through different bank accounts. He allegedly still has the money and power to avoid prosecution.

The ICPC declared that it was unfazed and would carry out its duties with devotion and professionalism going forward.
