Head of the People’s Democratic Party, Onuesoke, tells Yahaya Bello: Accused of Fraud, Submit to Arrest, Defend Yourself

Retired Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has been asked by Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a previous candidate for governor of Delta State, to appear before agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to be investigated.

The former governor of Kogi State was arrested, prompting Onuesoke to make this appeal.

At a news conference at Asaba International Airport, Onuesoke asked him to follow in the footsteps of prominent Nigerians like Ayo Fayose, who had previously accepted invitations from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Then why is he trying to win? He ought to be subjected to scrutiny if his cabinet is that spotless. Trying to put things off is a bad idea right now. Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, honored the EFCC invitation immediately upon leaving office; he should have followed suit. This is an incredibly basic matter. The EFCC has invited you; now is the time to go and explain. The law will not absolve him. According to him, he is just like any other Nigerian.

He demanded the immediate removal of police officers stationed at Bello’s private residence and their subsequent prosecution for obstruction of justice, denouncing their actions as those who stood in the way of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s efforts to apprehend the suspect.

You may remember that at Yahaya Bello’s Abuja residence, agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission were trying to arrest the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for corruption. However, a group of armed men wearing black uniforms and bearing the inscription “Special Forces” allegedly blocked their efforts.

At approximately 9:30 am on Wednesday, EFCC agents barged into Bello’s residence on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja. They were stopped from entering the residence by a group of armed men and cops who were protecting the ex-governor.
