The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks the authority to bring charges against those involved in the abuse of Naira, according to Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
He scolded the anti-graft agency for snatching the six-month jail term of Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, a crossdresser.
His position is that the Commission is not competent to prosecute cases involving the spraying of the Naira.
According to Odinkalu, “economic and financial crimes” are offenses that do not involve violence and are carried out with the goal of illegally earning wealth, either individually or in a group.
This violates laws that govern the government’s economic activities and how it is administered.
