Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, has expressed sympathy to the Trademore Estate residents in Lugbe, Abuja, over the flooding catastrophe that cost lives and millions of Naira’s worth of property.

Obi called the situation a tremendous catastrophe and said it was distressing.

According to the 460play, the flood in the Trademore Estate killed at least four lives and wrecked a number of homes.

Obi thanked the Federal Ministry of Environment-Flood Department, Red Cross, National Emergency Management Agency, FCT FEMA, Fire Service, NEMA, and National Emergency Management Agency in a statement posted on his verified Twitter account on Saturday.

But he added that a long-term solution must to be found for the estate’s persistent flooding problem.

The former governor of Anambra State also demanded that immediate humanitarian aid be given to the locals so that they may resume their regular lives.

“The flooding incident at Trademore Estate in Lugbe, Abuja, which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties worth millions of Naira is a major disaster and is extremely heartbreaking,” the statement stated. According to reports, the estate had previously seen events of this nature.

“While I appreciate everything NEMA, the Fire Service, FCT FEMA, Red Cross, and the Federal Ministry of Environment-Flood Department have done to help, a long-term solution to this persistent flooding problem in that region of the country’s capital city is still required.

In order to lessen the devastating effects of floods in this and other flood-prone areas around the nation, lasting preventative safety measures must be implemented. Earlier in the year, weather experts had routinely issued warnings about similar flooding outbreaks.

“In the interim, residents in the evacuation zones need to get immediate humanitarian aid. To enable people to resume their usual lives, accommodations, relief supplies, and medical treatment must be made available.

“My sympathies are with everyone who has been impacted by this unfortunate flooding incident.”

May God grant the departed peace in heaven and comfort to the homeless and everyone else whose lives have been impacted by this tragic event.
