Awoniyi says Finidi should be named Super Eagles

According to Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi, Finidi George was rightfully named the new head coach of the Super Eagles, succeeding Jose Peseiro.

This Monday, the three-time African champions’ new handler, a 53-year-old who had previously worked as Peseiro’s assistant, was introduced.

The team’s leader, according to Awoniyi, Finidi, possesses the ideal personality traits.

As I’ve said before, everyone deserves a shot at greatness, and I believe that being the assistant is a perfect fit for him because of his humility and all he’s done for the country.

“We have a lot of players and a good coach as well; it’s just a matter of getting it right on the field,” the ex-Union Berlin striker told prominent journalist Tobi Adepoju in an exclusive interview.

The Super Eagles will play South Africa and Benin in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and Awoniyi is a likely starter for either team.

June 7 and June 10 are the dates of the two games, correspondingly.
